The delegation of Sri Lanka at the 26th SPIEF 2023 in Saint Petersburg

On June 14-17, 2023, the Sri Lankan Delegation, headed by Her Excellency Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Ms. Professor Janitha A. Liyanage and Honorary Consul V. Zakharian, participated in the 26th International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg. Within the framework of the forum the Sri Lankan delegation held a number of relevant meetings aiming at cooperation and expansion of contacts in the fields of social and economic development, ecology, healthcare, trade, culture and tourism, education and science.



A meeting with Vasilii Grudev, the Minister of Investment Policy of the Sakhalin Region, was held on the forum arena as a part of the business program, where the issues of cooperation between Russia and Sri Lanka in the area of logistics, export, fishing industry and agriculture were discussed. As the result of the negotiations, promising plans for fruitful cooperation within the framework of friendly relations between the countries were shaped.



Also during the forum the representatives of the Russian state corporation Rosatom held a meeting with the Delegation from Sri Lanka to reach an agreement on the construction of a joint nuclear power plant on the island. On the same day there was held a dialogue with the representatives of Uralchem and Uralkali Group of Companies, where the Delegation was able to obtain information on the company's latest developments and achievements in the area of mineral fertilizers production and agronomic expertise, and to discuss the possibility to supply Sri Lanka with potassium chloride.



Within the framework of the Forum 2023 in Saint Petersburg, with the assistance of the Office of the Honorary Consul, there was organized a meeting with Alexey Alsufiev, First Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Government of the Arkhangelsk region, which contributed to the establishment of ties between Russia and Sri Lanka in the field of education and tourism. During the meeting mutually beneficial directions of cooperation in the field of educational, cultural and social relations between the Arkhangelsk region and Sri Lanka were shaped.
